Colorado’s Top Consumer Complaints Include Medical Services
Colorado’s top consumer complaints include medical services
The Colorado Attorney General’s office has released a summary of the most common consumer complaints it received in 2022. Included in the top 10 of some 18,000 total complaints recorded were issues dealing with medical practices, billing charges generally, and suspected fraud in Medicare and Medicaid billings. A spokesman for the AG’s office said efforts are being made to respond to a frequent complaint of consumers not being able to fully understand up front what a medical procedure will cost. The spokesman also emphasized that consumers be aware of the difference between an “urgent care” facility and a hospital-based “free-standing emergency room.” The latter bills significantly higher and may exact more out-of-pocket costs to be paid by the patient. The spokesman said to look for signage that by law must clearly say what type of facility it is, and use the “urgent care” facility whenever possible.
