Helpful Booklet for Colorado Veterans and Their Caregivers

Jason Strickland, chief communication officer for the VA Rocky Mountain Network, reminds veterans, their families, and their caregivers that a free booklet from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs describes a broad range of benefits and services that may be available to them. The booklet is titled, appropriately enough, “VA Federal Benefits Booklet for Veterans, Dependents, Survivors, and Caregivers.” It is published annually and is available online and in print. The range of benefits described in the booklet include matters dealing with health care, education assistance, housing, career development, vocational rehabilitation, disability compensation, community-based counseling, pensions, re-employment rights, homeless assistance, and more. Strickland, himself a veteran, mentions he discovered in the booklet that caregivers are eligible for a host of VA services, including those provided by the VA’s Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PGCSS) and Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC). He adds, “This easily navigable handbook offers links to eligibility requirements, application procedures, and other information designed to educate and inform veterans, their families and caregivers.” Anyone can access the booklet on the VA’s website at https://www.va.gov/opa/publications/benefits_book.asp. If you would like a printed version, your local medical center, regional office, or vet center might have free hard copies available.
