Home Modification Grants Available to Help Veterans Age in Place
AARP, an AgeWise Colorado Provider, reminds veterans and their families that the Veterans Administration has grant money available to help make homes easier to navigate for caregivers and those they are caring for. AARP says fewer than half of eligible veterans take advantage of these grants, which can total $150 million overall each year. “As we age, maintaining independence in the comfort of familiar surroundings often becomes a top priority,” AARP states. “Fortunately, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other organizations offer valuable resources to veterans who face mobility challenges and require home adaptations to suit their individual needs.” A Home Modification Benefits Guide is available at www.aarp.org/VetsHomeBenefits. It offers extensive information about the grants and other benefits available to veterans. AARP says the Guide will help you assess how your health may affect your ability to live independently and determine which home modifications are applicable to your needs. It will also help you understand how to apply for home modification grants and related programs.
