Why Some People Are Happy When They Are Dying
It may seem odd that a person could be happy as the end of life draws near, but the experience of one clinical psychologist working with people at the end of their lives has found this is not that uncommon. One real-world example is found in a man who mentioned the importance of enjoying life and prioritizing meaningful experiences as death drew near. He found that acknowledging death can enhance appreciation for life. A published study has also shown that some people actually nearing death use more positive language to describe their experience than those who just imagine death. This suggests that the experience of dying is more pleasant — or at least less unpleasant — than we might picture it.
