“My mission is to calm the chaos and ease the burden of individuals and families, with dignity and respect, as they experience various life changes with aging loved ones by creating environments that provide a deep sense of thriving and have a lifelong impact on the way people use, live and feel in their homes”.
I help navigate the journey of aging, perform comprehensive home assessments to identify current and possible future safety barriers, make suggestions for modifications and/or equipment needs based on the clients functional abilities, diagnosis and prognosis and provide resources for funding and professional service providers experienced in modifications for aging in place.
Kathleen Hulme, founder of Home Safety and Accessibility Solutions, in Morrison, CO., is a uniquely qualified professional with over three decades of experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Upon becoming a Certified Home Safety Specialist I merged my clinical skills with a passion to help older adults remain safe and independent in the home and community they love. I understand the natural progression of aging and have the experience and insight to help identify and solve medical and functional needs that may go unnoticed by inexperienced or unskilled staff.
I believe that “Quality of life can be the difference between thriving and surviving”.
Prior to making home modifications, avoid the possibility of “getting stuck in place” by investing in a home assessment performed by an experienced, skilled professional specializing in home modifications for aging in place. I understand the science behind human function in the environment while generally speaking, builders and contractors understand the science of the build without the understanding of injury, illness, disease progression and long term needs. Choosing me as a partner helps to provide peace of mind and decrease physical, financial and emotional distress, knowing that you are working with a trusted professional assisting you to make informed decisions.
Using a holistic approach when performing assessments, I carefully consider a person’s hopes, fears and goals and how the environment impacts the functional capability of the whole person(s). My knowledge and expertise allow me to assist you as you navigate the journey of aging, provide guidance, clarity and functional practicality, promote peace of mind and improve quality of life during an oftentimes overwhelming and confusing experience.
My comprehensive home assessment identifies immediate and potential future barriers, safety and fall hazards and provides practical, customized solutions for modifications that meet your current and possible future needs. Resources for funding and professional service providers are included upon request.
Benefits include peace of mind, increased safety and security, reduced risk of injury, increased independence and confidence as well as decreased burden on caregivers.
