Watch and Learn the latest from Dr. Huntington Potter. Colorado is fortunate to have Dr. Potter and his research team focused on beating back the Alzheimer’s scourge. He is the founder and director of the University of Colorado Alzheimer’s and Cognition Center (formerly the Rocky Mountain Alzheimer’s Disease Center). He is a Professor of Neurology and a member of the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome. Prior to coming to CU in 2012, he designed and led the Florida-wide Byrd Alzheimer’s Center and Research Institute. He studied, researched, and taught at Harvard University for 30 years. He is author of over 200 scientific articles, books and patents, is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is a founding member of the National Academy of Inventors.  His electron micrographs of DNA are on permanent exhibit in the Smithsonian Institute.

Dr. Potter presented findings from the University of Colorado Alzheimer’s and Cognition Center, including the prevalence and cost of Alzheimer’s disease, its impact on women and individuals with Down syndrome, and the genetic factors contributing to its development. The team also discussed the development of new drugs for Alzheimer’s disease, the potential of a breakthrough protein called Gmcsf, and the progress of a clinical trial for Alzheimer’s disease.Next steps

Dr. Potter’s team will complete the ongoing Leukine (GM-CSF) clinical trial by early 2026.

Dr. Potter is seeking funding (approximately $3-4 million) for a trial of GM-CSF in normal aged people without Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Potter’s team will continue discussions with pharmaceutical companies about potential Phase 3 trials for GM-CSF treatment.
